Seomjin River

The Seomjin is a river in South Korea. It drains the southwestern province of Jeollabuk -do, as well as the eastern part of the province of Jeollanam -do and western parts of the province of Gyeongsangnam -do, and finally flows into the Korea Strait. The Seomjin originates at Palgongsan and reached after 212.3 kilometers at the Gwangyang Gwangyang Bay.
The catchment area of 4896.5 km ² is Seomjin. There are agricultural areas and unspoilt mountain landscapes, such as the Jirisan area in it. Riverside the otter lives (Lutra lutra ). Main tributaries are the Boseong and the Yocheon.
The name " Seomjin " literally means " toad - ferry". This possibly comes from the Hideyoshi invasions of Korea in 1590s. According to a legend, prevented accumulation toads crossing the Seomjin by the Japanese army and their penetration into the northern Jeolla.
