Serafim Urechean

Serafim Urechean (also Urecheanu; born February 2, 1950 in Larga, in Rajon Briceni in Moldova) is a politician and former mayor of Chisinau.

Serafim Urechean has two children and two grandchildren. He is a member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CLRAE ).

Urechean took on 9 August 1994 as the successor of Nicolae Costin, the Office of the Mayor of Chisinau. After taking office, the church tower Catedrala Nasterea Domnului was through his involvement rebuilt and the church restored to their original appearance. In transport, he opened new trolleybus lines and increased the capacity of existing, important lines to better connect the city districts with each other.

In February 1999, he was a few days Prime Minister of Moldova. In 2005 he joined the parliamentary elections in Moldova as presidential candidate of the electoral alliance Blocul electoral "Moldova Demócrata " to.

On April 18, 2005 ahead of the mayoral elections of July 10, 2005 in Chisinau, Serafim Urechean announced his resignation as mayor. His tenure ended on 20 April with the formal handover of office to his successor, former Vice Mayor Vasile Ursu. After his time as mayor in 2005 he was head of the parliamentary faction of his party Alianta "Moldova noastra " ( AMN ) on 27 June.

In the parliamentary elections in April 2009, he joined again as a leading candidate of the AMN, whose chairman he is at. He also participated personally in the demonstrations against the communist government, which was accused of electoral fraud.
