Sergei Azarov

Sergei Nikolaevich Azarov (Russian: Сергей Азаров, the World Chess Federation FIDE Sergei Azarov; born May 19, 1983 in Minsk ) is a Belarusian chess master.

2001 and 2002 he won, each in Minsk, the Belarusian singles championship. In 2002, he finished in the Challengers tournament on the Chess Congress in Hastings shared first place. In the U-20 World Championship 2003 in Nakhchivan City, he finished second behind Şəhriyar Məmmədyarov. In 2005 he finished with seven points from nine games into second place in the Czech Open tournament. In 2006 he won the 5th Istanbul Chess Festival. In 2009 he won the Open tournament in Béthune.

With the Belarusian national team, he participated in the European Team Championships in 2001 and 2003 and at five Chess Olympiads between 2000 and 2008.

Chess club he played at the European Club Cup 2001, and 2003 to 2007 for Vesnianka Minsk, since 2009 for the Ukrainian Club A DAN DZO & PGMB Luhansk. In Romania, he plays for the Sah Club Hidrocon Bacau, in the Czech Republic for BSS Frýdek- Místek and Slovakia for the ŠK Caissa Čadca.
