Serhiy Tihipko

Serhiy Tihipko Leonidowytsch (Ukrainian Сергій Леонідович Тігіпко, Russian Сергей Леонидович Тигипко; born February 13, 1960 in Draganesti at Belzy, Moldavian SSR, Soviet Union) is a Ukrainian businessman and politician. From March 2010 to February 2014, he was Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine. He was from March 2010 to April 2014, the Party of Regions.

Life

Tihipko closed on Metallurgical Institute in Dnepropetrovsk 1982, a university degree for metallurgical engineer from and received the degree of Doctor of Economics. He then served from 1982 to 1984 in the armored forces of the Red Army. From 1984 on, he worked in the management of a secondary school in Dnipropetrovsk. He became first secretary of the Regional Committee of the Komsomol and 1991 Vice Chairman of the Board of Dnipro Commercial Bank in 1989 and in 1992 was chairman of the private bank.

1994-1997 advised Tihipko Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma on monetary issues and in 1997 Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. 1997 to 2001 he was Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for administrative reforms. He was also Minister of Economics and in 2000 a member of parliament in 1999. From 2002 to 2004 he was president of the National Bank of Ukraine. As chairman of the party " Strong Ukraine" Tihipko ceded in the presidential elections in Ukraine in 2010 and finished with 13.05% of the votes cast in third place behind Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko.
