Serhiy Zhadan
Serhiy Wiktorowytsch Schadan (Ukrainian Сергій Вікторович Жадан, scientific transliteration Serhiy Viktorovyč Zadan, alternative transcription Serhiy Zhadan, . Born August 23, 1974 in Starobilsk, Luhansk Oblast ) is a Ukrainian writer, poet and translator.
Life
Serhiy Schadan was born in the industrial area Luhansk in the east of the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine. He later moved with his parents to Kharkiv, the second largest city of Ukraine. There Schadan studied literature, Ukrainian Studies and German literature, and completed his doctorate on Ukrainian Futurism.
Since 1991, the author of numerous books of poetry, one of the most influential figures of the young scene in Kharkiv, where he still lives today. Schadan occurs also as an organizer of literary and music festivals in appearance and written rock song - texts which he himself to the music of the band Sobaky w kosmossi (translated: Dogs in the cosmos ) speaks.
In his first, 2007, on German novel, Depeche Mode Schadan describes the odyssey of his three protagonists through the post-socialist Ukraine in the upheaval of the early 1990s. The anarchic students see that time in the British electro-pop band the vanishing point of their dreams from coming out of the mess. The 2008 published audiobook version of Depeche Mode is read by Harry Rowohlt.
In the six-part collection of essays Big Mac. Stories went Schadan of the workup of the time history of his country over to snapshots of places of emigrants subculture in Central Europe. We process experience with the European cultural Bohème, which meets at festivals, readings and concerts, among others in Berlin and Vienna.
Serhiy Schadan was awarded the 2006 Hubert Burda Prize for Young Poetry. Schadan was an activist of the Orange Revolution.
Due to the double event " Moving territories" of the seminar " Cultural Management " with Hanne Kulessa of the training program " book and media practice " at the Goethe University Serhiy Schadan was with the Ukrainian writers Yuri Andruchowytsch and Jurko Prochasko and the Ukrainian author Tanja Maljartschuk early February 2014 in Frankfurt am Main. On 5 February he read an excerpt from " The Invention of the Jazz in the Donbass" during a reading evening at the Literature House Frankfurt and took on 6 February in a discussion on the political situation in Ukraine in part. The events were accompanied by several journalists and Serhiy interviewed on radio and television. At the Leipzig Book Fair, Serhiy defended against allegations German Left that Ukrainian democracy movement was infiltrated heavily and said, " Fascists are those that support the aggressive and chauvinistic Politilk Putin ".
