Servais-Théodore Pinckaers

Servais -Théodore Pinckaers OP ( born October 30, 1925 in Liege, Belgium, † April 7, 2008 in Fribourg, Switzerland ) was a Belgian Roman Catholic moral theologian. He was considered one of the world's leading expert on the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Life

Servais -Théodore Pinckaers occurred at the end of the Second World War in 1946 the Congregation of the Dominicans. He studied theology and philosophy in the Dominican convent of La Sarte in Huy and received priestly ordination in 1951. In 1952 he received his doctorate at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas ( " Angelicum " ) in Rome, then he was still his master's degree in theology.

From 1952 to 1965 he taught moral theology in Belgium, from 1965 to 1973 he was prior of the monastery of Liege. In 1973 he was appointed as professor of fundamental moral theology at the Swiss University of Fribourg, he also was 1989-1991 Dean of the Faculty of Theology.

Pinckaers was a participant at Vatican II. , He was obliged by Pope John Paul II as a consultant to the Congregation for Catholic Education in June 1989. He was a member of the International Theological Commission since 1992.

Work
