Service de police de la Ville de Montréal

The Service de police de la ville de Montréal ( SPVM ) is the police service of the Canadian city of Montreal. With approximately 4,400 police officers and 1,600 civilian employees of the SPVM is the second largest municipal police in Canada after the Toronto Police Service as well as the second largest police department of the province of Quebec by the Sûreté du Québec. The SPVM is entrusted with the maintenance of law and order and the criminal investigation in Montreal and 15 other municipalities in the administrative region of Montreal.

History

The history of the Montreal police goes back to the year 1663, as in Ville- Marie first time patrolling sergeant. As a rule, these were to soldiers, and occasionally civilians.
