Set Svanholm

Set Karl Viktor Svanholm, ( born September 2, 1904 in Västerås, † October 4, 1964 in Nacka in Stockholm ) was a Swedish tenor.

Life

Set Svanholm worked as organist and elementary school teacher before he could develop his voice. After completion of vocal training with John Forsell in 1925 he worked until 1930 as a cantor and choir director in Stockholm.

Set Svanholm debuted in 1930 as Silvio in Pagliacci Ruggiero Leoncavallo as a baritone at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Six years later he made his debut in the tenor specialist, also at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, as Radames in Verdi's Aida.

From 1938 Set Svanholm sung at all major opera houses in Europe. From 1945 on, he was eleven years a member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1956 he returned to Sweden and became director of the Royal Opera in Stockholm. He remained in this position until 1962.

Set Svanholm celebrated his greatest successes as a heroic tenor in operas by Richard Wagner ( The Ring of the Nibelung ) and Giuseppe Verdi, but also by Georges Bizet.
