Severin Eisenberger

Severin Eisenberger (Polish Seweryn Eisenberger, born July 25, 1879 in Krakow, † December 11, 1945 in New York) was a Polish pianist and university professor.

In 1928 he moved after he had led letter contacts with Ossip Salomonowitsch Gabrilowitsch and Ignaz Friedman, in the U.S., where in Cleveland he continued his teaching and concert activities at the Cincinnati College and wielded much influence in Cleveland and Cincinnati. One student who was Vivian Harvey Slater. In his New York debut in 1930, the critic described him as a great pianist in the line of Alfred travel Auer and Eugen d' Albert, both important pupil of Franz Liszt. In addition to the works of Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann Eisenberger had an extensive repertoire and gave generous concerts. His last public appearance was in 1941 with the Cleveland Orchestra under Artur Rodzinski with Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5

Many of his students made career as a concert pianist, composer and teacher, including Lili Kraus, Heinrich Kaminski, Sylvia Straus Heschel, Herbert Vivien Harvey Slater Haufrecht and who was his assistant until 1945.

Eisenberger's daughter Agnes Eisenberger (1932-2002) was a concert manager and translator of the notebooks of Johannes Brahms.
