Severn River (central Ontario)

Severn River is a river in Simcoe County and Muskoka District Municipality of Ontario, Canada.

He pictures the drainage of Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe associated with this. He leaves Lake Couchiching on its northern end at Washago. From there it flows a short distance to the north. He flows through the Sparrow Lake. Then he turns to the northwest and flows to Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

The river is part of the Trent -Severn Waterway, which connects Port Severn on Georgian Bay with Trenton on Lake Ontario.

Hydropower plants

The Swift Rapids hydroelectric power plant is located on the lower reaches of the Severn River. It has three turbines with 8.1 MW total capacity. It was built from 1913 to 1917. Operator is Orillia Power Generation Corporation.

A few kilometers effluent is the Big Chute hydroelectric power plant, just east of Gloucester Pool. It was built in 1909-1919 and has 4 turbines with a total capacity of 10 MW. It is operated by Ontario Power Generation.
