Shadwell DLR station
Shadwell is the name of an underground railway station on the East London Line (London Overground, London Underground until 2007 ) and an above-ground station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR ) in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Both are located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the Cable Street. The separate station buildings, which are 50 meters apart. There is no underground passageway therebetween, transiting passengers have to cross the street. In 2011 there were 0.988 million passengers the station, no statistics are available for the DLR station.
History
On April 10, 1876, the East London Railway opened the station. As of October 1, 1884 sailed trains the Metropolitan Railway (MR, now the Metropolitan Line) and the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR, now the District Line ) route. About 50 meters of the site of today's DLR station was the Shadwell and St George 's East railway station of the London and Blackwall Railway. It was opened on October 1, 1840, closed on 7 July 1941 and 1955/56, torn down for the most part.
