Shala

Šala is a Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Hurrian goddess. It was regarded as the wife of Adad, Dagan or Nusku, in Hurrian area by Kummarbi. She sometimes wears the epithet ša Sadi, which could refer by Klengel on a northern origin. After MUL.APIN Šala is the goddess of the star sign Virgo, the furrow ( AB.SIN ).

She was called oath deity in the Neo-Assyrian vassal treaties, as in the Akitu Treaty ( £ 11449 ), where it is listed right after Adad. In Ashur she was worshiped together with Nisaba and Habiru in the Adad Temple ( KAV 42 II 8-11).

Šala is, though not often, handed theophorous as part of their name, as in ipIQ - Šala from Sippar in the reign of Samsu - ditana.
