She Loves Me

She Loves Me is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and song texts by a book by Joe Masteroff, after the comedy Perfumery (Hungarian Illatszertár ) of the Hungarian author László Miklós. The drama has already served in the 1940s as a template for the Ernst Lubitsch film The Shop Around the, which in turn ( The Good Old Summertime ) formed the basis for the Hollywood musical with music to happiness. Harold Prince led the production and the director of the musical, which had on 23 April 1963 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Broadway debut. The term of the musicals disappointed with 302 ideas, whereas the score ( score) was successful in the charts, and its inclusion in 1964 received a Grammy. That same year, Jack Cassidy won a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The first performance in London's West End was on 29 April 1964 Lyric Theatre. The German -language premiere was on 19 September 1996 under the title She loves me in the Etablissement Ronacher in Vienna, in a translation by Frank Thannhäuser and Nico Rabenald.

Action

Time and Place: Budapest in 1934. For fifteen years, Georg Nowack works in Mr. Maraczeks perfumery. He is the first seller, is the best of terms with the boss and is a weekly guest in his house. In private, things are different. Therefore Nowack has started an anonymous letter friendship through a personal ad and immediately fell in love with the unknown. Just at this time turns his professional fortune. With the newly hired clerk Amalia Balash he is dealing with a quarrelsome, contradictory, always late coming person. Moreover, becomes cloudy, inexplicably, his relationship to Mr. Maraczek. In the run up to Christmas it comes to the debacle. On the very day of Nowacks first meeting with his beloved stranger, Miss Balash also has an appointment and insists to want to call it a day on time. Then requesting Maraczek who is dissatisfied with the state of the decoration work of Nowack overtime. One word leads to another; Nowack loses control and announces. At the appointed rendezvous at Café Imperial lacks the courage, he would deny himself actually. But when he sees Miss Balash sitting there, he's so confused that he sits down next to her, after which both fall instantly in dispute. On the same evening, Mr. Maraczeks clears up resentment against Nowack. Maraczek had sent a detective to spy his wife behind. But not Nowack is suspected as the secret lover of his wife, but his colleague Kodaly. In his office Maraczek then tried to take his own life. The second act shows conciliatory. To Mr. Maraczeks bedside Nowack gets the line of perfumery and transferred to dismiss the order Kodaly. After that, Nowack cares for its Amalia, who mourns the loss of her dear pen pal, so that the two eventually find each other.
