The Sheikh Zayed Bridge is one of three bridges that connect the city of Abu Dhabi to the mainland. The total length of the bridge is 842 meters. It is named after Sheikh Zayed, the first President of the United Arab Emirates.

The designed by the British- Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid arch bridge was opened after eight years of construction on November 25, 2010. There 250,000 m3 of concrete and 80,000 t of reinforcing material were used. The building is designed in its stretch properties for a temperature range of 0 degrees to 60 degrees Celsius; for earthquake safety provide strong vibration.

The two -lane roadways are supported by S-shaped curves that address the sand dunes of the desert country. The construction costs came after many project delays and financial disputes between the government authorities and the construction companies to around 270 million U.S. dollars. Originally, the bridge should be open in 2006.

The Sheikh Zayed Bridge is intended to serve as a relief of two existing bridges between the mainland and Abu Dhabi, the maqta Bridge and the Mussafah Bridge.

The bridge is illuminated in different colors. The lighting concept was developed by Rogier van der Heide and executed by Philips.

Critics criticize the structure of the bridge, which had been designed purely visual aspects and was not optimally designed to accommodate the forces flow.
