Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)

Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) is the 10th studio album by the American author, painter and singer experimental rock and blues Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. The album was released in 1978. According to hardly taken note of albums Unconditionally Guaranteed and Bluejeans & Moonbeams followed after a hiatus with Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller), the breakthrough for Beefheart. The critics responded enthusiastically. In particular, the piece " Owed t'Alex " was highlighted.

Background

The album was originally recorded in 1976 for Discreet Records. It was produced by Frank Zappa and should appear under the title Bat Chain Puller. Due to disputes between Zappa and his former manager Herb Cohen, who had founded with Zappa 's Discreet Records, publication, however, was stopped and taken the master tapes of Zappa under wraps. The measures provided for the album entitled " Harry Irene ", "The Floppy Boot Stomp ", " Owed t'Alex " and the poem " Apes - Ma " though they were already shipped as Tape on Virgin Records and music journalists. Various bootlegs containing the title plate under names like Bat Chain Puller The Original Paris 1972, original 1976 Shiny Beast version, Bat Chain Puller - The 1976 Sessions, and Dust Sucker. Beefheart played the album for Warner Bros., finally, a completely new. This time without the participation of Frank Zappa and Herb Cohen.
