Shlomo Mintz

Shlomo Mintz (Hebrew שלמה מינץ; born October 30, 1957 in Moscow) is an Israeli violinist, violist and conductor. He has performed with numerous renowned orchestras and conductors and are world recitals and chamber concerts, as well as a viola player.

For his outstanding musical achievements, he was awarded several prizes, including the prestigious Premio Accademia Musicale Chigiana Siena, the Diapason d'Or, the Grand Prix du Disque, the Gramophone Award and the Edison Award.

In 2006 he was honored by the Ben- Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba, Israel with an honorary doctorate.

Biography

Born in 1957 in Moscow, two years later, he emigrated with his parents to Israel. Already the age of eleven he made his debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta and jumped shortly thereafter in Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 for the diseased Itzhak Perlman. At age 16, he made his glittering debut at Carnegie Hall in New York. Shlomo Mintz began his studies at the legendary Ilona Feher in Israel and continued his studies with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School of Music in New York continued. At the age of 20, he made a grand tour of Europe with renowned conductors such as Carlo Maria Giulini, Antal Dorati, and Eugene Ormandy. He also signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon.

At the age of 18 years, Shlomo Mintz has begun to conduct and has since conducted renowned orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra ( United Kingdom), the NHK Symphony Orchestra (Japan) and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

From 1989 to 1993 he was chief conductor of the Israel Chamber Orchestra and from 1994 to 1998 he was Artistic Director and Principal Guest Conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra.

Shlomo Mintz was Keshet Eilon International Patron of the Master Course in Israel from 1998-2010, a summer program for gifted young violin talents from all over the world, and gives master classes all over the world.

He is also a much sought-after juror at international competitions. In Switzerland, since 2002 he is Artistic Director of the Sion -Valais International Music Festival and was president of the Sion -Valais International Violin Competition of 2002-2011.

In 2012 he celebrated his 50th anniversary on stage.
