Shopping City Süd

The Shopping City Süd (SCS ) is a near the southern outskirts of the city of Vienna in Voesendorf (district Vienna) located shopping center, with a portion is also in Wiener Neudorf. It was founded in 1976 by Hans Dujsík ( 1924-2003 ).

General

With a sales area of approximately 173,000 m², it is one of the largest shopping centers in Europe and the largest shopping center in Austria. Whether it is the largest shopping center in Europe in the SCS, is an issue, as measured by number of visitors, sales revenue or sales area shopping centers claim this title for himself.

The Shopping City Süd includes about 330 stores with 4,500 employees. It was mainly aimed at the construction of the traffic and provides more than 10,000 parking spaces. The catchment area reaches deep into Hungary and Slovakia into it, so that there is traffic chaos at every shopping day stronger despite its own motorway links via the Southern Motorway ( A2) and the direct connection to the Wiener Neustadt road (B17 ). The provision of public transport is predominantly by the local train, but there are also some bus lines, such as one of Vienna from foreign as free -to-use direct Siebenhirten (U6 ) - SCS ( ' SCS bus ") and the post bus lines 207 ( direction Mödling station (S -Bahn ) and underground Siebenhirten (U6 ) and train Liesing (S -Bahn ) ) and 265 (direction Bahnhof Mödling (S -Bahn ) and Vienna Südtirolerplatz (Vienna south Station, S -Bahn, U- Bahn U1 ) ). The free bus Opera - SCS ( "Ikea bus" ) has been set, since October 2, 2012, holders of the IKEA Family Card or the SCS customer card the local train from Vienna without a ticket for the section Voesendorf - Siebenhirten - Voesendorf - SCS ( outer zone ) use.

The Shopping City Süd was built outside the Vienna borders in order to save costs. So much purchasing power flows from Vienna to Lower Austria, which explains the ambiguous attitude of the Vienna Provincial Government towards the SCS. This becomes particularly to the poor transport links through Vienna " public transport ": The SCS is outside the " core zone of Vienna " (zone 100) in UP that covers the entire city of Vienna area. However, there are always demands to extend the line U6 to the SCS.

Since 2011, the SCS is also a member of the Climate Alliance Austria and aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 5,300 tonnes under the membership.

After the death of its founder Hans Dujsík the SCS was transferred to a foundation. In December 2007, the SCS was sold to the Dutch property group Unibail -Rodamco, which also owns the Danube Centre in Vienna. The first secret purchase price is likely to have amounted to 607 million euros.
