Shoreditch tube station
Shoreditch is a closed London Underground station in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is located on Brick Lane and was the northern terminus of the East London Line. In operation it was from 1913 to 2006.
History
The station was opened in 1869 and was located on the East London Railway, operated on the trains of several companies. 1885, the passenger traffic between Liverpool Street and Shoreditch has been set. As of March 31 1913, the Metropolitan Railway ( predecessor company of the Metropolitan Line) wrong on the section to the south. Since the partial closure of a compound curve at Whitechapel in 1941, the East London Line was operationally independent.
The track at Shoreditch consisted of a single track, which ran along the disused freight station Bishopsgate. Until 1966 the station was north a connecting track to the main railway line, which ends at Liverpool Street main station; this link is from the end of the platform clearly visible yet.
Between 25 March 1995 and 25 March 1998 the entire line was closed due to renovation and modernization works to all traffic. Last consisted limited opening times: Monday to Friday from 7:00 bis 10:00 clock clock clock bis 20:30 clock or 15:30, and on Sundays from 7:15 bis 15:00 clock clock. On Saturdays, the station was closed all day. During the rest of Whitechapel was the northern terminus of the East London Line.
On 9 June 2006, the station was closed Shoreditch. It is replaced by the station located near Shoreditch High Street. The extended at both ends belongs route since June 2010, to the network of London Overground. The station building is a listed building (Grade II Listed ). The platform together with superstructures and disposals was canceled, filled the railway cut to make room for the new viaduct station Shoreditch High Street.
In February 2011, the station building was sold at auction for a minimum bid of 180,000 pounds, the final price was 665,000 pounds. It is planned to set up there a hall for art exhibitions and similar events.
