The airfield Shoreham ( IATA Code: ESH, ICAO code: EGKA ), also known as Shoreham ( Brighton City ) Airport, is an airport in Lancing, at Shoreham -by-Sea near Brighton on the south coast of England. It is situated at a height of 7 ft (about 2.1 m ) AMSL.

The airfield is, after he had been sold by the municipalities of Brighton and Hove and Worthing in July 2006 in the possession of the Albemarle Shoreham Airport Limited, as the debt burden for the public sector was too large.

Operation

Surrounded by an Aerodrome Traffic Zone Aerodrome is for visual and instrument flight approved and open on all days of the week, however, instrument flight training subject to a PPR scheme. Customs and Immigration formalities can be completed only by prior request.

Infrastructure

The airport has three arranged in a triangle start and runways. The 1036 m long main web 02 /20 with about a north-south orientation is paved and equipped with a PAPI system and a runway lighting for night flight. The 877 m long grass runway 07 /25 crosses the main line at its southern end. In the northeast, the triangle is another grass runway, the 408 m long 13/31, closed.

Between located in the south of the airfield tower and the runway 07 /25 has two helipads, one of which is fired.

As a navigation aid no instrument landing system are a VDF direction finder and a DME, however, available.

History

First flown in 1910, the airfield Shoreham was officially opened on 20 June 1911. Since 1913 it is the seat of flight schools. On 13 June 1936, built in Art Deco style station was opened, which is still in use today and is a listed building. By 1940, the trains of the English Southern Railway stopped right outside the airport. Since then, the station is closed.
