Shrewsbury Castle

Shrewsbury Castle is a red sandstone castle built in the English town of Shrewsbury. It was built shortly after the Norman invasion in 1070, on behalf of Roger de Montgomery. The present appearance, however, it was in the 13th century.

The castle is located on a hill above the old town, in a loop of the River Severn. It was built as a fortification for the city, to protect not limited by the river edge. The former city walls went out from the castle and spanned the city.

Owner of the castle today is the Unitary Authority Shropshire. It houses the Museum of the Shropshire Regiment.
