Shrink is the fourth album from Weilheim indie band The Notwist. It was released on 15 May 1998 on the label community in marketing of Virgin Records.

Genesis

Work on Shrink began in March 1997. Previously Martin Gretsch man joined them as a permanent member, and from then on was responsible for the electronics. For the album they teamed up with the producer team Galore ( Mario Thaler and Olaf Opal). The recordings took place in Uphon Studio in Weilheim and were repeatedly interrupted by tours. The album was released in May 1998 in Germany, the album internationally on 18 September 1998 has been published. However Notwists U.S. record company went bankrupt, so the album in the United States was released on 22 July 2003.

Splits were the two singles Day 7 (1997) and Chemicals ( 1998). The album reached number 49 of the German album charts.

Music and Meaning

Shrink is commonly seen as a major step in the development of the band. It is distinguished particularly by the no longer punk, but by influences of electronica, ambient and jazz influenced variety.
