Shun Medoruma

Shun Medoruma (Japanese目 取 真 俊, Medoruma Shun, born October 6, 1960 in Nakijin, Okinawa Prefecture) is a Japanese writer.

Life

Medoruma visited the prefecture operated Kitayama High School in Nakijin and completed his studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Ryukyu from. He first worked as a factory worker, guardian and tutor, and then took up a position as a teacher at a Japanese prefecture operated high school, which he held until 2003.

In 1997 he received for Suiteki (水滴, dt drops of water ) both the " literary prize of the art festival Kyushu ", as well as the coveted Akutagawa Prize. Three years later he won with Mabuigumi (魂 込め) again two awards: the Kiyama - Shohei Literature Prize and the Yasunari Kawabata Prize for Literature. 2004, the novel Fūon (风 音) was filmed by a written his own screenplay of Yōichi Higashi and awarded at the World Film Festival in Montreal with the Innovation Award.

In addition to his narrative work Medoruma also published essays and reviews in the Okinawa Times and Ryukyu Shimpo. Thematically Medoruma deals repeatedly with the Battle of Okinawa, the still ongoing deployment of U.S. armed forces and the resulting problems. Recently Medoruma also wrote about the litigation against Kenzaburo Oe and Iwanami Shoten and the publisher about the approval process for Japanese textbooks.
