Shura Cherkassky

Shura Cherkassky (Russian Александр Исаакович ( Шура ) Черкасский / Isaakowitsch Alexander ( Shura ) Cherkassky, born October 7, 1909 in Odessa, † 29 December 1995 ) was an American- British pianist.

Life

After the October Revolution, fled to the United States, Cherkassky studied at the " Curtis Institute of Music " in Philadelphia at Józef Hofmann. He was a child prodigy, at 16 years went on concert tours and was 25 years a world-famous pianist. His star fell, as the pianist Arthur Rubinstein and Vladimir Horowitz expired the rank him in the 1940s. His repertoire ranged from Bach to contemporary music. His playing was always of exceptional clarity and with great interaction with the audience.
