Sid Spindler

Sid Spindler ( born July 9, 1932 in Łódź, † March 1, 2008 in Melbourne) was an Australian politician ( Democrat).

Life

Sis Spindler was born to German parents in Poland. In 1949 he emigrated at the age of 17 years to Australia. He started a painting and decorating operation and could obtain a law degree. From 1981 to 1986 he worked as a consultant for the politician Don Chipp and was elected in 1990 in the Australian Senate.

Spindler was from 1990 to 1996 a member of the Senate. In his time as an MP, he sat down heavily for the rights of Aboriginal people, immigrants, Gefängnisinsaßen and same-sex couples. He was also active against child labor. Was marked his membership in the Senate but also of two scandals. 1991 was forced to resign from the leadership of the Democratic Party Janet Powell, after an affair between her and Spindler was known. 1996 Spindler was asked publicly by Jeff Kennett to apologize for his youthful membership in the Hitler Youth.

In 2002 he founded a foundation that aims to support Aboriginal children in the study.

He died in 2008 of liver cancer.

Family

He was married and had four children.
