Siegel–Schwall Band

The Siegel - Schwall Band is an American blues-rock band that was founded in 1964 by the music student Corky Siegel and Jim Schwall in Chicago.

Band History

1964 were both music students Corky Siegel ( harmonica, piano) and Jim Schwall (guitar, mandolin ) than blues duo. Expanded to include a drummer ( first Russ Chadwick, later Shelly Plotkin, last Sam Lay ) and a bass player (initially Jos Davidson, then Jack Dawson, Rollo Radford later ) they finally called themselves " Siegel -Schwall Band". They played in Chicago clubs such as "Pepper 's Lounge " and "Big John's " where they stood together on the stage with blues greats such as Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Muddy Waters and Howlin 'Wolf.

In 1965 she got by Sam Charters a recording contract with Vanguard Records, where they released four albums 1966-1970. Although they did not achieve the popularity of other blues-rock groups such as the Butterfield Blues Band, they played quite well in large venues such as the Fillmore West.

The Siegel - Schwall Band was the first Blue band to perform with a symphony orchestra. With the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led her 1968 Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony Orchestra (Composer: William Russo; Conductor: Seiji Ozawa ). The recording, released by Deutsche Grammophon in 1973 was recorded in 1972 with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

From 1971, the seal - Schwall Band brought out five albums in the Chicago record label " Wooden Nickel ". The album The Siegel - Schwall Band from 1971 in 1973 he won a Grammy for the best record covers. In 1974, the group split up.

Since 1987, there was another occasional concerts of the band. When Alligator Records, they released two new albums (1988 and 2005), appeared next to a series of compilations. Flash Forward of 2005 reached # 9 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart. Siegel and Schwall have next to the seal - Schwall Band both own groups with which they occur.
