Siegfried Behrend

Siegfried Behrend ( born November 19, 1933 in Berlin, † September 20, 1990 in Hausham ) was a German composer and guitarist.

Biography and artistic work

Behrend received the Klindworth - Scharwenka Conservatory in Berlin an education in piano, harpsichord, conducting and composition. The guitar he taught himself. Even as a 30 - year-old he had more than 1000 compositions, mostly inspired folkloric or by old masters, must be produced. He gave concerts in Moscow, Rome and Madrid, he played in front of the Shah of Persia, before the emperor in Tokyo and above Gamal Abdel Nasser in Cairo.

1962 met the guitarist during the recording of the personality show Belina - Portrait of a singer to know the main character closer. The two were henceforth artistic common ways. Belina and Siegfried Behrend represented with their folk songs, chansons, Yiddish songs as ambassadors of German culture at that time still young Federal Republic of Germany and led with the support of the Goethe -Institut several toured extensively through. Siegfried Behrend married in the 1970s, the actress Claudia Brodzinska and turned to her as a singer / performer of avant-garde music.

Siegfried Behrend was a much sought after guitar teacher. Martin Maria Krüger received from him the first guitar lessons. In later years, both stepped worldwide as a German guitar duo. At meetings held by Behrend in the 1970s in the Bavarian castle Ried " International Masterclasses for artistic guitar playing " was also attended by Michael Tröster, Matthias Henke, Helmut Richter and Manuel Negwer. Behrend was ( co-) editor of many musical reference books, such as the multi-volume work folk songs from around the world or guitar lessons for children, etc. 1963 moderated Siegfried Behrend the television program The Story of the Guitar, 1971, he moderated a thirteen- part television program entitled "Instruments - Sounds - structures " at Hessischer Rundfunk about the guitar and its use in chamber music.

Behrend From 1960 to 1973 headed the Saarland Plucked ( SZO ) and from 1968 to 1990 the German Plucked ( DZO ) During this time, he significantly shaped the repertoire development of plucked instruments. He sit next to numerous arrangements of baroque and folk art through original compositions and commissions an emphasis on contemporary avant-garde music. He conducted numerous world premieres of works by Anestis Logothetis, Klaus Hashagen, Heinrich Konietzny, Dietrich Erdmann, Friedrich Gaitis and others. He and his wife Claudia Brodzinska - Behrend ( speaking voice ) the premiere of Sylvano Bussottis Ultima Rara and there was also a recording where he interpreted it with Bussotti together.
