Heinrich Konietzny

Heinrich Josef Konietzny ( born May 7, 1910 in Gliwice, † April 23, 1983 in Saarbrücken- Dudweiler ) was a German musician, professor and composer.

Life

Heinrich Konietzny was born the son of a Silesian- Prussian officer and socialist mayor. First early childhood musical experiences he gained on the mandolin, in singing and percussion instruments. At age nine, he came as a student in the Seminary of Bad Ziegenhals, where he worked as a choirboy and also received its first systematic music theory lessons. From the age of Konietzny received violin lessons. In Berlin, he studied composition with Paul Hindemith. In 1936, he was a bassoonist in the orchestra of the Imperial station Saarbrücken. In 1947 the Conservatory Saarbrücken appointed him (now the University of Music Saarland ) as a lecturer of the master class in composition, instrumentation and chamber music. He wrote six symphonies and numerous radio plays, television and film music as well as compositions for stringed instruments, where he developed new sound and expression. The documentary film "New Music - Heinrich Konietzny " ( Saarland Broadcasting ), which was directed by Manfred Heikaus the late 1960s, provides an insight into the work of the composer.

Musician

First violin lessons received Konietzny in 1918. At age seventeen, he was concertmaster of the Spa Orchestra of Kudowa. 1929 Konietzny was concertmaster of the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra. A fracture of the left hand after an accident ended his career in 1930 as a violinist. In May 1931, he started on the advice of Hindemith his bassoon studies. In the years 1933-1936 Konietzny had several orchestral excerpts as a bassoonist. From 1936 to 1939 he was principal bassoon in the former Reich station Saarbrücken. From 1939 to 1945 he was forced to do military service. 1946 Konietzny first bassoonist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Saarland Radio. This position he held until 1964.

Coinciding with his orchestral position he led a woodwind ensemble of the symphony orchestra.

Composer

Konietzny studied composition with Paul Hindemith in 1931 at the State Academy of Music in Berlin. In 1934 he met Hugo Distler know who influenced his compositional style strong. Also the work of Alban Berg has strongly influenced Konietznys work. From 1949 to 1975 Henry Konietzny was resident composer and editor of the Saarland Radio.

His work is very extensive (estimated 500 to 600 plants), widely differentiated and was partially performed internationally: six symphonies, a percussion symphony, several string quartets, 25 concertos, chamber music for a variety of occupations, ballets, over 300 films and radio plays, as well as over 200 songs and cantatas. For several songs Konietzny also wrote the lyrics.

In addition, numerous compositions for the Amateuermusizieren: works for accordion, wind instruments and some 40 compositions for stringed instruments.

A complete catalog does not yet exist. Konietzny knew his compositions generally not with opus numbers. Many autographs are lost. Therefore, only rough estimates of the total amount of his work are possible. 42 Konietzny autographs store next to other parts of his remains in the National Archives Saarbrücken.

1947 Konietzny lecturer at the master class in composition, instrumentation and chamber music ( woodwinds ) at the former Saarbrücken Conservatory (now the University of Music Saarland ). His appointment as professor was in 1963.
