Siiri Oviir

Siiri Oviir ( born Tavel ( Davel ), born November 3, 1947 in Tallinn) is an Estonian politician. She is a member of the European Parliament since 2004.

Early years

After graduating from high school in 1966 in Tallinn studied Siiri Oviir 1969-1975 Law at the University of Tartu. From 1972 to 1975 she was in the Ministry of Justice of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic and from 1975 to 1990 occupied the Supreme Court.

Politician

With the restoration of Estonian independence Siiri Oviir went into politics. From 1990 to 1992 she was Minister of Social Affairs in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar. From 1992 to 1995 was Oviir representatives of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) before to November during 1995 was Minister of Social Affairs of April. From 1995 to 2002 she was a member of Parliament, and from 1999 as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. From January 2002 to March 2003 she was again Minister of Social Affairs. From 2003 to 2004 Oviir was a member of the Estonian Parliament, before she was elected in 2004 for the Estonian Centre Party ( Keskerakond ) as deputies in the European Parliament.

From 1989 to 1996 she was co-founder and board member of the Estonian Women's Association. Since 1991, Siiri Oviir is the president of the Estonian National Paralympic Committee.

Private life

Siiri Oviir with Mihkel Oviir, the President of the Court of Auditors Estonian, married and has three daughters.
