Silent Möbius

Silent Möbius (Japaneseサイレント メビウス, sairento mebiusu ) is a completed manga series of the Japanese signatory Kia Asamiya, which was implemented as an anime series and in two films. The manga mixed elements of cyberpunk and fantasy.

Action

In 2023, the over-populated and pollution destroyed Tokyo repeatedly Lucifer Hawks, Demons from another world, haunted, raid the random innocent people and kill them. The AMP ( Attacked Mystification Police ), a battle group of six young women with special, often supernatural abilities to protect the city against these attacks.

Publication

The manga series was released in Japan Kadokawa Shoten in from May 1988 to 2003, a total of 12 volumes. The chapter first appeared in the magazine Monthly Comic Comp, later in Comic Dragon. The first volumes are devoted to mainly the presentation of the characters, from the fourth band, the plot develops. An English version was published by Viz Media in several editions, a French of Génération Comics and a Chinese from Taiwan Tohan.

In Germany, first published from 1997 to 1998, the first six chapters in the double issues 201/202 bis 211/212 of the comic magazine Heavy Metal. In 2000, the Alpha Comic Verlag published the first volume in a mirrored U.S. version with translation from the Japanese, the previously announced second volume did not materialize. As of 2003, Planet Manga began with a re-release ( including the additional Prolog band 0, also known as Möbius Klein) in original Japanese reading direction, with dust jacket and a translation from the Japanese. After Volume 6 this initial period of 16 volumes version was also canceled.

Adaptations

Movies

On August 17, 1991 came with Silent Möbius a first adaptation of the manga into an anime movie in the cinema. The 54 -minute film directors Michitaka Kikuchi and Kazuo Tomizawa summarizes the plot of the first part of the manga, the music was composed by Kaoru Wada, the bias Title Sailing is played by the group Tokyo Shōnen.

On 18 July 1992, a second film directed by Yasunori Ide followed. This deals with the later chapters of the manga and the character Yuki Saiko.

In addition, a live-action adaptation was released in Japan.

Anime series

1998 was directed by Hideki Tonokatsu an anime television series with 26 episodes. The character design and Yasuhiro Tanaka Seiki designed Moriki, the artistic director Eiji Iwase had stopped. The production was done at Studio Radix on behalf of TV Tokyo. This radiated the series of 7 April 1998 from to September 29, 1998 in Japan.

The television series was published in German in 2002 OVA film. From 29 July 2002 to 19 August 2002, a shortened version was broadcast on VOX in which a sequence was omitted. The anime was broadcast in English and Korean by Animax and also translated into French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Music

The music of the series composed Jimmie Haskell, Ken'ichi Sudo, Suzie Katayama and Takashi Furukawa. The biasing song is Kindan no Pensee (禁断 の パンセ, kindan no rumen, dt " forbidden thoughts " ) of Saori Ishizuka, the credits were welcomed to the songs Silently by Karen Mok and Till The End Of Time by Jason Scheff & Mica Okudoi.

Reception

The manga was a breakthrough on the market for the manga artist Kei Asamiya. The movies found at the beginning of the 1990s, special attention and are sometimes considered a classic.

The television series is referred to in the AnimaniA as successful successor of the films, the character design is close to the manga, the plot orientating only be roughly it. The animation quality was good and the music fits. Also the anime Guide confirms the high quality of the anime movies and call it as an outstanding example of cyberpunk. In contrast, the live-action film was a failure.
