Silverstone is a medium sized village in Northamptonshire, England with about 2000 inhabitants. It is located approximately midway between Northampton and Oxford. Silverstone is the home of the world famous race track, Silverstone Circuit, on the May 13, 1950 took place the first race of the first ever Formula 1 World Championship. The Grand Prix of Great Britain was 46 times since then held at Silverstone (as of 2013). The race track is located on the site of an old airfield about a kilometer south of the village. In the week before and during the race a busy and hectic replaces the otherwise quiet village atmosphere.

The Formula 1 team Force India has its base in the immediate vicinity of the track. The company is the employer of 200 people in and around Silverstone. Previously, Eddie Jordan owner of the resident Formula 1 team.

In the Middle Ages timber trade took place primarily at Silverstone. Fish ponds in the north of the village supplied the inhabitants. The village is listed in the Domesday Book.
