Simeon ben Gamliel

Shimon ben Gamliel II and Simeon the Elder (c. 10; † 70 ) ( רבן שמעון בן גמליאל הזקן ) was a Jewish patriarch.

According to Jewish tradition, Shimon ben Gamaliel was a direct descendant of King David. The patriarch was a Tannait, that is, a writer of the second generation of the Mishnah and prince of the Sanhedrin. After the death of his father Gamaliel I in 50 Simeon II assumed the office of Nasi and also became prince of the Sanhedrin. His tomb was found in Kafar Kana in northern Israel, and has since become a place of pilgrimage.

The Sayings of the Fathers deliver both statements of Shimon ben Gamaliel and his father Gamaliel I.

Shimon ben Gamaliel The patriarch was later head of the Pharisees and was 66-70 our era, in which he was involved killed in the uprising against Rome.
