Simeon Toribio

Simeon Toribio ( Simeon Toribio Galvez; born September 3, 1905 Bohol, † June 5, 1969 ) was a Filipino athlete. He won the bronze medal in the high jump at the summer Olympics in 1932.

Toribio occurred in 1928 in Amsterdam the first time in the Olympic Games. The American Bob King won with 1.94 meters, behind which four jumpers placed 1.91 meters, Toribio was after stinging fourth. 1932 in Los Angeles jumped over four athletes 1.97 meters, stinging won the Canadian Duncan McNaughton, Toribio finished in third place. Toribio won five times the high jump competition at the Far East Championships. After his athletic career Toribio became a lawyer. From 1941 to 1953 he represented the second district of his native island of Bohol in the Philippine House of Representatives. The Cong. Simeon G. Toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen recalls Toribio.
