Simón de Colonia

Simon of Cologne (Spanish Simón de Colonia, * 1455 in Burgos, † 1511 ) was a Spanish architect and sculptor. He was the son of John of Cologne and the father of Francis of Cologne ( Francisco de Colonia ). All three are known only in Spain.

Biography

The exact year of birth is unknown Simon of Cologne; due to the marriage of his father in 1454, the year (sometimes already in 1450 ) adopted in 1455. His father was John of Cologne cathedral builder of the Cathedral of Burgos, his mother's name was María Fernández and came from Burgos. Both had six sons.

In a document of the year 1481 he is referred to as ' Master of the Cathedral of Burgos '. So he went in professionally - as in the time usual - the successor to his father, whose death is accepted for the same year. In his first marriage he was married to María Sánchez, with whom he had seven children. After the death of his wife, he entered into a second marriage with Mencia de San Martín, but remained childless. End of the 15th century, he lived in a house on the Plaza de la Coronería in Burgos.
