Simon Jones (actor)

Simon Jones ( born July 27, 1950 in Wiltshire, England ) is a British actor.

Life

Jones studied at Cambridge University, where he was a member of the theater club Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club. Other prominent members of this club have included John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Eric Idle of Monty Python and Mark Wing- Davey and Douglas Adams.

He became friends with Adam, and when he signed the contract on a BBC radio play series called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in 1977, he had Jones been considered for the role of the main character Arthur Dent; in later interviews Adams was even said to have the role tailored to Jones. After the radio drama series created in 1978 Jones played Arthur Dent in the eponymous television series from 1981 and in the sequels of the radio drama series, broadcast by the BBC in 2004 and 2005. Also in the Hollywood film version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Jones has a cameo.

Jones played beyond supporting roles in films such as Brazil, Green Card, The Miracle of Manhattan and Twelve Monkeys.
