Simon Segal

Simon Segal ( born October 3, 1898 in Białystok, † August 1969 in Arcachon ) was a French painter of the Ecole de Paris.

In 1918 Simon Segal to Berlin. There he lived until 1923. He illustrated a migrants magazine, Spolochi where you can see his first drawings. In 1926 he went to Toulon, where he was discovered by his mentor, Bruno Bassano. There he made his first exhibitions, along with painters such as Mange, Savin and Echevin. In 1936 he had his first exhibition in Paris, at the Galerie Billiet -Worms. Although Simon Segal was still completely unknown, the entire exhibition from the American collector Frank Altschul was purchased. From 1946 to 1953 Segal worked in Jobourg ( near Cherbourg ). From 1953 until his death lived Simon Segal in Paris. He illustrated a Bible (Editions labergerie, 1957), and the Apocalypse (Editions Michel Kieffer, 1969) In a monastery in Aups is a museum, which was named after the artist. The church was given to the museum by Bruno Bassano.
