Simon Yates (mountaineer)

Simon Yates (born in 1963 in Leicestershire ) is a British mountaineer.

In 1985 he managed a first ascent of lying in the Peruvian Andes Siula Grande on the west side. His companion Joe Simpson had an accident on the way down hard in a rescue attempt and in bad weather Simpson was roped unintentionally by his climbing partner Yates on an overhanging ice cliff. To save his own life, Yates cut through the rope, because otherwise he threatened to crash along with Simpson. Simpson plunged it into a crevasse, and was held back by Yates left for dead. Joe Simpson survived the crash, however, and managed on its own the way to base camp. Joe Simpson described his experiences in his book Touching the Void. Simpson and Yates are in the film adaptation of the book both to speak. Yates received as a result of events known as the " the guy who cut the rope " (engl. " The type of the rope average " ) and had a bad reputation in some parts of mountaineering scene. Simpson has never accused that he has "cut off" him, as it was purely objectively the right decision Yates.
