Simone Scatizzi

Simone Scatizzi ( born March 26, 1931 in Prato, Tuscany, † August 27, 2010 in Florence, Tuscany ) was an Italian theologian and Roman Catholic Bishop of Pistoia.

Life

Simone Scatizzi entered the seminary of Prato and received his theological training by June 29, 1954 at the Cathedral of Prato ordination. He was the first secretary of Archbishop Pietro Fiordelli and later had several posts in the diocesan curia, most recently as Vicar General.

Pope Paul VI. ordered him in 1977 to the bishop of the diocese of Fiesole, founded in the 1st century. He received his episcopal consecration on 8 September 1977 in the cathedral of the Bishop of Prato Prato, Pietro Fiordelli; Co-consecrators were his predecessor, Bishop Antonio Bagnoli, and Archbishop Antonio Innocenti, secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and later Cardinal.

In 1981, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Pistoia. Pope Benedict XVI. upheld its age-related resignation in 2006.

On 24 June 2001 he was awarded by Mayor Renzo Berti made ​​an honorary citizen of Pistoia.

In February 2010 pleaded Scatizzi in the context of homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church that priests gay and lesbian believers should refuse Communion.
