Sinikka Kukkonen

Sinikka Kukkonen Maire ( born August 1, 1947 in Tervo ) is a former Finnish orienteer and ski orienteer.

Career

Kukkonen started in the 1970s at five summer 's World Championships in orienteering. She had in a single run in 1976 in the Scottish Aviemore 7th place her best result. With the Finnish season she won in 1972 in Czechoslovakia together with Pirjo Seppä and Liisa Veijalainen the title. In 1976 she was runner-up season. In Finnish Championships Kukkonen won six titles, including 1972, the three titles on the short -, long- distance and in the night run.

In ski orienteering, she won the first World Cup, which was held in 1975 at the Finnish Hyvinkää the title. She also was in the squadron with Raili Sallinen and Aila Flöjt World Champion. In the following three world championships in ski - orienteering she won in the Season two more gold medals and einam silver. In the individual it was established in 1977 in the Bulgarian Velingrad behind the Swedes Marianne Bogestedt and Sonja Johannesson third parties. At the World Championships in 1980 and 1982, she was single run third parties. In Finland she won 1972-1977 uninterruptedly the national title, one more time in 1980 with the Season -. They ran throughout her career for the clubs Pielaveden Sampo, Juvan Urheilijat and Lahti Suunnistajat -37 - she won the Finnish championship five times.

The ski orienteer Sirpa Kukkonen is Sinikka Kukkonens younger sister.
