Sinojackia

Sinojackia rehderiana

Sinojackia is a plant genus of the family of Storaxbaumgewächse ( Styracaceae ). Eight species have been described, which are all from China.

Description

All species are deciduous shrubs or trees. The branches are covered with thorns.

The leaves are alternate on the branches. They unfold in the spring of naked, or provided with bud scales winter buds. The leaves are not assembled or lobed, leaf margin serrate. Stipules are absent.

In most drooping, racemose inflorescences few flowers are borne. The individual flower stems are long and thin, the bracts fall off soon. The hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry. The sepals are fused together into a four-to siebenzipfligen tube. The white petals are fused at the base. Eight to fourteen stamens are in a stamen circle. The under constant ovary goes into a long stylus over which projects beyond the stamens and ends in a three-lobed stigma indistinct.

The fruit consists of a fleshy outer layer ( exocarp ), a hard inner ( endocarp ) and the intermediate spongy mesocarp. Each fruit contains one seed.

Sinojackia dolichocarpa CJQi is also provided in a separate genus Changiostyrax.
