Síol Anmchadha

SIOL Anmchadha was a sub- kingdom or duchy of Hy -Many in Ireland and was ruled by a branch of the Ui Maine, the SIOL Anmchadha ( the seed of Anmchadh ') was called, hence the name of the landscape.

In its greatest extent the kings of SIOL Anmchadha ruled the land west of Lough Derg to the limit by Thomond, the land between the rivers Shannon and Suck, and a tract of land with names Lushmagh beyond the Shannon towards Birr.

The ruling dynasty later took the name Ó Madadháin, which then Maddan or Madden was in English. In the later Middle Ages were the rulers of vassals of the Earl of Ulster, and of their successors, the clan Cardes.

The name SIOL Anmchadha has to this day in the village of Baile Mór name SIOL Anmchadha, today Lawrencetown in Galway, survived.
