Siphiwo Ntshebe

Siphiwo Ntshebe (* 1974 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, † May 25, 2010 ) was a South African opera tenor.

Growing up in New Brighton, a suburb of Port Elizabeth, now part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Ntshebe came as a small child by his parents into contact with classical music and operas. Another early influence was his grandfather, who was a priest in the Eastern Cape Province. First appearances as a singer he had in smaller operas and musical comedies, written by his father for the church of his congregation. His vocal training, he began as a teenager in the school choir. At 16, he started singing with an opera orchestra in Port Elizabeth, after which he received a scholarship for training in the choir of the University of Cape Town. This was followed by scholarships for Young Artists Programme at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane, Australia and 2004 for postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London in the United Kingdom, from which he graduated in 2007.

As a result Ntshebe was including in the UK, other European countries and in South Africa as a tenor on stage. On the occasion of the Football World Cup in South Africa, he should at the opening ceremony on 11 June 2010 at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg his song Hope recite. On the recording of the eponymous debut solo album Nelson Mandela was also involved with a spoken message. Ntshebe died shortly before its completion in his hometown of meningitis.
