Siri Bjerke

Siri Bjerke ( born June 19, 1958 in Oslo, † 11 February 2012) was a Norwegian politician Arbeiderpartiet (Ap) and among other things, between 2000 and 2001 Minister for the Environment in the first government of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Life

Siri Bjerke was the daughter of Juul Bjerke, an economist and Secretary of the Treasury, as well as sister of Rune Bjerke, who since 2007 has been Chairman of Norway's largest financial services provider DnB NOR.

They even began after school to study psychology at the University of Oslo and at the same time their political career as a member of the Central Committee of the work ern Ungdomsfylking (AUF), the youth organization of the Ap. At the same time she was a representative of the UP in the National Council of Norwegian youth associations. After she was secretary of the city council of Oslo between 1983 and 1986, she was secretary of the women's movement of Ap and following 1986-1993 Secretary of the Board of Arbeiderpartiet for International.

Siri Bjerke was in the third government of Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland as well as in the government of their successor Thorbjørn Jagland 1993-1997 State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then she was between 1997 and 2005 for the Ap deputy member ( Vararepresentant ) of the Storting.

On March 17, 2001, she was appointed by Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg as Minister for the Environment in the first government and held this office until 19 October 2001.

After it was from 2002 to 2005 director of corporate policy of the Norwegian group of companies ( Næringslivets Hovedorganisasjon ), in 2005 she was Head of Department of Innovation Norway, a company founded in 2004 state-owned enterprises, which deals with tourism, trade, industry and regional development as well as investment advice and the four to then summed for these topics relevant authorities. This function she held until her death due to a longer cancer.
