Sisaket (also: Si Sa Ket, Srisaket in Thai ศรีสะเกษ ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง ศรีสะเกษ ) in the Thai province of Si Saket. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Sisaket Province Sisaket and the.

The town Sisaket has 39 945 inhabitants ( 2011).

Geography

The Sisaket province is located in the south of the northeast region of Thailand, the Isaan. The city is located in the southern part of Sisaket Isaan on Maenam Mun, one of the tributaries of the Mekong. The distance to the capital Bangkok is around 570 kilometers.

Sisaket benefited from the many remains of the ancient Khmer culture, which can be found in the area and promote tourism.

History

Sisaket was originally called Muang Khu Khan ( เมือง ขุขันธ์ ) and was founded as a settlement of the Khmer just outside the present city area. 1759 she received yet during the Ayutthaya period town rights.
