Sisian

Sissian (Armenian Սիսիան, also transcribed as Sisian; formerly Sisavan, Sisawan; former name Qarakilsə ) is an Armenian town in the Syunik province ( historically Sangesur ). It is situated on both sides of the Worotan River in six kilometers south of the highway Yerevan - Meghri. On this it is 217 km away from the capital Yerevan and 115 kilometers from the provincial capital Kapan. The former Turkic name of the city means Qarakilsə Black Church.

In Aghitu, five kilometers south-east in the valley of Worotan, remained a tomb from the 6/7 Receive century. A good ten kilometers on this route lie the ruins of the monastery and fortress Worotnawank Worotnaberd.
