Sister Hazel

Sister Hazel is a rock band from Florida. The name of Sister Hazel is derived from an African-American woman who had called in the 70s in the hometown of the band Sister Hazel's Rescue Mission in life. The use of will and ambition of this woman against racism has brought the band to select her name.

Band History

Sister Hazel was founded in 1993 by Ken Block and Andrew Copeland in Gainesville, Florida. The other band members have gradually been joined.

Before the band got its first major record deal, they financed their first two albums (1994 and 1996 ) itself, but as these were able to enjoy increased popularity and sales in Florida, took over the end of 1996 the record label Universal Records, the material and Sister Hazel had their major label record deal.

Thus, the first two albums Sister Hazel released ( 1994) and ... Somewhere More Familiar (now 1997) again, but this time across the United States. Now Sister Hazel were known. Their single All for you became a hit in the charts and the album reached gold status. 1999 was to be heard on the film soundtrack of 10 things I hate about the band. On this CD, the song Your Winter is a different version than on the album Fortress.

In 2000, the album Fortress was released in the United States and became the song Change your Mind to the radio hit. This has also contributed to the film soundtrack of Bedazzled. A year later, the band in the movie The Wedding Planner with the song We'll find it to be heard.

A short time later, Sister Hazel Change by Universal Records back to Croakin Poets and Rock Ridge Music, an independent label in order to have more control over their music.

In December 2002, appeared Chasing Daylight before, almost exactly one year later (2003 ), the first Sister Hazel live double CD Live LIVE came on the market. Beginning of 2004, the first Sister Hazel DVD featuring a complete concert and on the road - documentation of the band can be seen. On August 24, 2004, further works were published in the American market: The album Lift and Drew Copeland's solo album No Regrets. Appears on October 10, 2006 Absolutely the sixth studio album, and in June 2007, with BAM Vol 1 out first B-sides compilation. In autumn 2007, Sister Hazel bring Santa 's Playlist a Christmas CD on the market on which a mixture of original compositions and well-known Christmas carols can be heard. In 2008, Sister Hazel was again busy at work. Publisher is an acoustic unplugged album entitled Before the Amplifiers and singer Ken Block released his solo album Drift on the market. 2009 Release published in 2010 and followed Heartland Highway.

Style

The band's style is not easy to describe. It is comparable to bands like Vertical Horizon, Pat McGee band, Matchbox Twenty, the Goo Goo Dolls or Wideawake. This is most easily described as Sister Hazel grassroots Southern rock band with modern pop rock influences. Some pieces are also going towards Blues, Acoustic, Folk or radio. Sister Hazel is thus a very versatile band. Most bands similar directions come from the U.S. and are relatively unknown in Germany.

Events

Sister Hazel are co-founders of various charity events and events such as Lyrics for Life, The Rock Boat or The Rock Slope.

It is festival events with familiar character. The skirt Boat for example, travels every year since 2001 with the bands on board in the Caribbean Sea. It comes in addition to the concerts on various jam sessions on deck and on the stages.
