Vertical Horizon is a native of Washington, DC rock-pop band.

Band History

Vertical Horizon was founded in the early 1990s by Matthew Scannell and Keith Kane, who studied at this time at Georgetown University. After graduating in 1991, the two moved to Boston and published in 1992 on their own their first album There and Back Again, for they had played all the instruments himself.

The next year they were mostly on tour with similar bands like Jackopierce, The Allman Brothers Band and Better Than Ezra. Only in 1995 they went back into a recording studio. For the album Running on Ice she took over the vocals and acoustic guitars, picked up for the rest of the instruments but guest musicians such as Doug Derryberry, and Carter Beauford as Jackopierce support.

Together with drummer Ed Toth and bassist Ryan Fisher spent Keith and Matt also 1996 on tour. Result of this was the live album Live Stages, which appeared at the end of the year. In addition, the band was now trying to find a major label as a partner. With success, they received a recording contract with Sony BMG / RCA. Mid-1997 was Fisher, who had never planned to become a permanent member of the band, replaced shortly after his departure by Seth Horan, before 1998, a casting was held. The very first bass player, who imagined - Sean Hurley - was well received and after numerous other auditions finally decided to use him as a permanent member.

In 1999 she released the album Everything You Want at RCA. The first single - We Are - had only moderate success, but the second single, Everything You Want climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. singles charts and thus became one of the most-played radio songs of 2000, the third single You '. re a God was also successful and was also used for the soundtrack of Bruce Almighty. With Best I Ever Had ( Grey Sky Morning) is a fourth single was released, but was not as successful as its two predecessors. Published in 2005 by this song but a cover of Country musician Gary Allan, who thus could land in the country charts, a Top 10 success.

After further tours began in 2001 the recordings for the next album Go, whose original publication date should be September 2002. Problems with the label delayed the release but for a whole year. In September 2003, it was finally put on the market on the part of the label without much notice and was only slightly successful, which is why Vertical Horizon middle of 2004 finally severed by RCA. In early 2005 they signed with Hybrid Recordings, which once published Go 2005 new and with much more success.

In July 2005, drummer Ed Toth left the band to play at the Doobie Brothers. As a substitute Craig McIntyre and Blair Sinta jumped, where no permanent solution has been found. In June 2006, Matt Scannell announced on the band's website that work had begun on a new album and that drummer Neil Peart of Rush as a guest musician einspielt not just a few songs, but also contributes material for a song.

On 22 September 2009, the new album Burning The Days appeared. The first single was The Middle Ground.
