Sister Nancy

Sister Nancy ( born 2 January 1962 as Ophlin Russell Myers in Kingston, Jamaica), also known as Muma Nancy, is the stage name of Ophlin Russell Myers. It is regarded as the world's first female dancehall deejay and was for over two decades, the dominant female voice of the dancehall scene. Their most successful song " Bam Bam " received awards from the BBC and the Observer.

Biography

Sister Nancy has grown up as one of fifteen siblings. Her older brother Robert acquired under the pseudonym Brigadier Jerry also fame as a dancehall deejay.

During her teenage years she tried many a time in different sound system (Jamaica ) | sound systems in Kingston as a DJ, producer Winston Riley to the Sister Nancy in 1980 discovered and took with him to his studio for test shots. This resulted in their first single called " Papa Dean". This was a huge success in Jamaica. After she became known through the publication, Sister Nancy was the first female dancehall deejay an invitation to Reggae Sunsplash, the biggest festival for Dancehall and Reggae Earth, which was broadcast worldwide. Thus they also gained international notoriety. After further productions and collaborate with well-known artists such as Yellowman, with whom she published together with the Deejay Fathead Album "The Yellow, The Purple & The Nancy " on Greensleeves Records, published in 1982 their debut album " One, Two " on the label Techniques Records which was produced by Winston Riley.
