Skalná

Skalná ( until 1950 Vildštejn, German Wildenstein ) is a town with 1795 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers north of Franzensbad in the Bohemian Vogtland near the German border.

Geography

The city is located on the southwestern edge of the Ore Mountains in 465 m asl and is crossed by Sázek ( Soosbach ). North of the city begins the Natural Park Kamenné Hills, southeast at Vonšov and Kateřina is protected as a nature reserve Moor Soos.

Neighboring towns are Vojtanov in the West, Velky Luh and Křižovatka in the Northeast, Nova Ves in the east, as well as Vonšov and Stary Rybnik in the south.

History

The origin of the present town is detectable since 1166 Wildenstein Castle. The place Wildenstein was in 1224 mentioned in connection with a purchase, in which the Abbot Erhard for the monastery Waldsassen acquired the tithe of Gerold von Wildenstein. 1225 was named as the owner of Albert Notthafft of Wildenstein. At the end of the 13th century John Rabe earned on Mechelgrün possession. In the following period were the noble families Ramsperg, silt, Wirsperg, Trautenberg, helmet box and Selva Lords of Wildenstein.

Main industry was next to the embroidery and knitting as well as the violin, especially the clay mining. In the 19th century seat of the judicial district Wildenstein Wildenstein; Seat of the court was the castle. In Wildenstein produced two clay and fireclay works. 1865, the village was raised to the market town. With the construction of the local railway Tirschnitz - Wildenstein Wildenstein Schönenbach received a railway connection in 1900. 1905 brought Franz Joseph I. The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Skalná, Stary Rybnik, Sucha u Skalné, Velky Rybnik u Skalné and Vonšov.
