Skeiða -og Gnúpverjahreppur is an Icelandic community in the region Suðurland in southern Iceland.

On 1 January 2009 the municipality had 515 inhabitants.

Geography

( North ) west of the community is Grímsnes -og Grafningshreppur, Bláskógabyggð and Hrunamannahreppur. In the north of the municipality is the Hofsjökull, south of this river Miklakvísl. To the north of the municipal territory of Skeiða -og Gnúpverjahreppur lies the community Eyjafjarðarsveit, ( Northern) Þingeyjarsveit east and the eastern part of Ásahreppur. The river Þjórsá forms the eastern boundary. The lake is located in the municipality Sultartangalón triangle between the eastern part of Ásahreppur, Skeiða -og Gnúpverjahreppur and Rangárþing Ytra. Southwest of Skeiða -og Gnúpverjahreppur is the western part of Ásahreppur and the community Flói.

History

The community Skeiða -og Gnúpverjahreppur was created in 2003 from the independent municipalities Skeiðahreppur and Gnúpverjahreppur. The historic courtyard Stöng is interesting for tourists. In the community Skeiða -og Gnúpverjahreppur there are no towns.
