Model history

In the 1950s and 1960s, the car manufacturer Škoda made a number of vehicles, the first numbers, later had names. This still had the conventional drive principle Front engine with rear wheel drive. The vehicles were viewed from the outset as an intermediate types, which should bridge the time to develop a Czechoslovak Volkswagen. As early as 1955 was another four to five years, the speech until you have completed a suitable Volkswagen models. The costs associated with many twists development work ultimately resulted in the Škoda 1000MB - a lightweight full Volkswagen rear engine, which went into production in 1964 and the previous Skoda models replaced. Only the old station wagon models 1202 and Octavia Combi were further built in parallel until 1971. Even if the intermediate type was not a real Volkswagen due to its price and its quantity - to its beautiful form and solidity made him universally popular. Even today also fragmented Octavia station wagon, especially in rural regions of Slovakia.

The production of this so-called intermediate type began in 1955 with the Škoda 440, which was referred to in the population as Spartak. This car can be seen as the successor of the 1101/1102 " Tudor "; many parts of this vehicle were simply taken over, but this is hardly to be seen because of changed body to him. Until 1959 75.417 units were produced of this model.

In 1957, the product line was expanded by the Škoda 445, which received a more powerful engine ( built 9375 units to 1959 ). In addition, a convertible version was introduced with the Škoda 450 (1000 to 1959 units ). 1959 the models were renamed because of the 5 - year plan. Škoda Octavia (instead of 440), Škoda Octavia Super ( instead of 445 ) and Škoda Felicia (instead of 450). The exterior has changed little, it was prescribed that 80 % of the parts had to be taken from the previous. Here, the development has basically taken care of just about the technology. Thus, the type of suspension and some trims have been changed. 1960 came two Touring Sport models with the engines of the two Škoda Felicia added. 1961 further modified engines were used and changed the internal type names in part. By Octavia and Felicia 298 480 units were produced, of which 14,863 54 086 Felicia and Octavia Combi.

1964 1000 MB were the notchback version ( Octavia ) and the convertible ( Felicia ) by the tail motor driven Škoda replaced. For the convertible Felicia there was no successor, and the Octavia Combi should be the last cluster of Skoda for a long time. Its production started in 1971 final.

In 1994 the name Felicia was picked up for the small car Skoda Felicia again. Similarly, the name Octavia was again used for the new Škoda Octavia.

The various models were exports. They were sold to South America or New Zealand. In the former GDR reached 6000 440/445, 500 and more than 70,000 Felicia Octavia (Statistics to 1969 ).
